Kizer Breaks Two Program Records as Ole Miss Topples No. 9 Auburn

9/23/2018 | Soccer

Senior Becomes School’s All-Time Leader in Goals and Points in Massive Road Victory

AUBURN, Ala. – On a day she'll surely never forget, CeCe Kizer set a pair of Ole Miss (8-4, 2-1 SEC) career records on Sunday, bagging a brace to help lead Ole Miss to a 3-2 road upset of No. 9 Auburn (9-1-1, 1-1-1 SEC) to pick up a massive three points in the SEC standings.

Before Kizer took charge in the second half, it was attacking partner Channing Foster that netted a beauty to quiet the Auburn crowd and bring the Rebels level.

The bulk of the action in the first half came in the span of less than two minutes, as Auburn took a 1-0 lead in the 36th-minute on a far post shot by Jessie Gerow and the Rebels answered back in the 38th-minute on Foster's equally well-placed far post attempt.

Neither team was able to carve our too dangerous of an opportunity through the final seven minutes of the half and the two teams headed into their respective locker rooms knotted up at a goal apiece.

The second half couldn't have gotten off to a better start for Ole Miss, as CeCe Kizer made a darting run from the midfield and fired a shot past Tiger keeper Sarah Le Beau not even a minute into the half. The goal was a big one for Kizer, too, breaking the all-time Rebel record as the 45th score of her prolific career.

However, the lead didn't last long. Julia Phillips was called for a foul in the box, resulting in a 51st-minute penalty. Bri Folds converted for Auburn, going left to beat Marnie Merritt and bring the score level once again.

Kizer would have the last laugh, though. Having just come off the bench with fresh legs, the senior made quite possibly the greatest run of her career. Receiving the ball behind the midfield stripe, Kizer darted past a myriad of Tiger defenders before slotting past Le Beau, scoring her 13th game-winner in an Ole Miss kit.

With her second of the day, Kizer once again set herself alone in the Ole Miss record books with 110 points for her career.

With 12 minutes remaining on the clock, the Rebels expertly killed off the remaining time. Whenever in possession, the Rebels smartly played the ball to the corners to erase precious seconds. On the other end, the Ole Miss defense was quick to quell any offensive threat Auburn produced.

Having just upended the nation's No. 9 team, Ole Miss faces another challenging opponent on Friday, welcoming No. 2 Texas A&M to Oxford for a 7 p.m. showdown at the Ole Miss Soccer Stadium
