Senior rifle standout competed against world’s best

CHANGWON, Korea – Senior Ole Miss rifle standout Randi Loudin placed 70th in the 50m Women's Rifle Prone at the 52nd International Shooting Federation World Championships on Wednesday.

Loudin, entering her final season at Ole Miss, recorded a score of 608.6. She placed 70th in a field of 86 athletes at the Changwon International Shooting Center. Her score was not high enough to advance to the qualification round, but the experience was immeasurable.

"Representing the United States in the World Shooting Championships was a fabulous opportunity for Randi," head coach Marsha Beasley said. "I am sure she is disappointed not to have moved on to the qualification round. I am also certain that her experience preparing for and participating in the World Shooting Championships will make her a much stronger competitor this season. I look forward to her returning to Oxford and sharing what she learned with her teammates."

Loudin, the Post Falls, Idaho product joined Sagen Maddalena (611.0) and Mackensie Martin (608.7) of the United States. The trio combined for a score of 1828.3, placing 20th overall. Germany won the team event with a world-record total of 1871.4.

"This was Randi's first international competition. I was not surprised when she made the U.S. Team," Beasley said. "In NCAA rifle we shoot 20 shots prone as part of the smallbore event and she has consistently excelled at prone over the two years I've coached her. She won the bronze medal at the U.S. Championships in both 2017 and 2018."

Two-time All-American and 2017 Ole Miss graduate Alison Weisz also competed in the 10m Women's Air Rifle.

The World Shooting Championships for rifle are held every four years, two years after the Olympics. The championships are the largest international shooting competition by events, competitors, and number of countries competing.

Loudin and her Rebel teammates will open the season against Jacksonville State at the Ole Miss Rifle Range on Saturday, September 29 at 8 a.m.
