Head Coach Kermit Davis Writes Check to American Cancer Society

OXFORD, Miss. –  As part of homecoming week at Ole Miss, men's basketball head coach Kermit Davis invited students to take a couple of shots at The Pavilion to help #SinkCancer. With the help of 876 students in attendance, Davis wrote a $10,043 check to the American Cancer Society.

Starting a Coaches vs. Cancer initiative, the Rebels head coach wanted to bring the Ole Miss student body together for a good cause. Partnering with the American Cancer Society, Davis agreed to pay $1 for every student that attended, $10 for every made free throw and $500 for every made half-court shot.

With 876 students arriving at The Pavilion to "Make Kermit Pay," along with 116 free throws made and 16 half-court shots drained, the amount on the check totaled $10,043 at the end of the evening.

"Club Red, and the Ole Miss student body is fantastic," said Davis. "With close to 1,000 students showing up, I thought it was a great number for our first year. We're going to make this a tradition."

Beginning at 4 p.m., students were allowed to watch the end of the Rebels' practice while enjoying complimentary popcorn and soft drinks. From 5-7 p.m., students lined up to take their shots to help sink cancer. Members of the Ole Miss men's basketball team interacted with students throughout the event as well.
