Rifle Finishes Second Day of Smallbore Olympic Trials

Ali Weisz Moves Up to 13th in Team USA Qualification on Wednesday
FORT BENNING, Ga. – It was a day full of improvement as five Ole Miss rifle athletes posted higher scores to move up or hold strong on the leaderboard on Day Two of the 2019 Olympic Team Trials for Smallbore on Wednesday.
Part I wrapped up after two days of three position competition. Scores will be added to Part II, which will be held in the spring, March 29-31 to select two smallbore shooters to compete for Team USA in next summer's Olympic Games.
Ali Weisz, a 2017 Ole Miss graduate, moved from 15th to 13th position after firing an 1161 on Day Two. Her two-day total of 2318 points narrowly missed making the eight-person finals. Points were added to the combined total based on place in the final.
The next four Rebels fired higher scores, but held their spots in the standings. Junior Abby Buesseler (20th) saw the biggest score improvement, firing nine points higher than Tuesday for a two-day total of 2295. Sophomore Erin Walsh sits 21st with 2292 points.
Freshman Kristen Derting (25th, 2270) and sophomore Jillian Zakrzeski (26th, 2269) each fired 1136s on Day Two. Junior Kamilla Kisch (31st, 2235) also competed amongst 41 of the nation's best.
Ole Miss now focus its attention to the 2019-20 NCAA schedule with a match against UT Martin on Sunday, Oct. 13 at 9 a.m. CT in Murray, Kentucky.
