Tim Sandkaulen Will Compete in the Singles Draw Beginning Wednesday

TULSA, Okla. – Two Ole Miss men's tennis doubles pairs were bested in the opening round of the Qualification Draw in the prestigious ITA All-American Championships on Monday.

Rebel pair Jan Soren Hain and Simon Junk as well as teammates Lukas Engelhardt and Tim Sandkaulen were edged in close contests on Day Three at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on the University of Tulsa campus.

Sophomores Hain and Junk nearly pulled off an impressive upset against the No. 30 ITA ranked duo Oscar Cutting and David Stevenson of Memphis. The Rebels claimed the first set 6-2, but the Tigers responded with an identical 6-2 decision. Set three went Cutting and Stevenson's way after a 1-0(7) hard-fought tiebreak.

Freshman Engelhardt and senior Sandkaulen faced off with Ohio State's Robert Cash and John McNally. The Buckeyes powered past the No. 52 ranked Rebel pair in another tough match, 6-3, 6-4.

Sandkaulen will return to the court in the Singles Main Draw, beginning Wednesday. He is 6-1 in the fall, possesses a No. 25 singles ranking, and took home the John Breaux Cajun Tennis Classic title a week ago.
