Senior Tied for Third Individually After Going 68-72
CHICAGO – The No. 13 Ole Miss women's golf team completed the first two rounds of the Illini Women's Invitational at Medinah on Monday. Kennedy Swann (68-72—140) leads the Rebels on the leaderboard, tied for third overall.
The Rebels sit in eighth place as a team after 36 holes, going 290-289—579. Ole Miss is 12 shots back of first place Kent State, who is at 9-under. Ole Miss is third in the field in total birdies with 29, and played the par 5s 5-under as a whole on the first day.
"We saw several positives from our rounds today, but overall we struggled with the simple things," head coach Kory Henkes said. "Today was a learning experience and we need to execute better with our wedges and put the ball in position more often. The team is ready for another opportunity to play some great golf tomorrow."
Swann opened with a 4-under 68 and sits tied for third individually headed into the final round Tuesday. The senior dominated the par 4s, going 4-under, and leads the team in birdies with nine. Swann shot a collective 4-under Monday after shooting even-par in the second round and is one shot back of first place.
"Today was a long day on the course," Swann said. "My first round was extremely solid. I hit the ball really well and was not out of position a whole lot. The afternoon round was a grind with a lot of par saves. Looking to tomorrow, it's going to take staying in position and having putts fall."
Senior Pi-Lillebi Hermansson is tied for 19th individually. After opening with a 2-over 74, Hermansson bounced back with a 3-under 69 in the afternoon with five birdies, 11 pars and just two bogeys. The Djursholm, Sweden, native is second on the team in total birdies with seven.
Julia Johnson, after rounds of 72-74, is tied for 27th. Andrea Lignell sits tied for 54th after going 76-74—150.
Conner Beth Ball is tied for 63rd after back-to-back 76s.
Final round is set for Tuesday morning with a 9 a.m. CT shotgun start.
