Senior Advances with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 Opening Round Win
TULSA, Okla. – Ole Miss men's tennis senior Tim Sandkaulen added another win to a sensational fall resume at the first round of the ITA All-American Championships singles draw on Wednesday.
After having his match postponed an hour and a half because of rain, Sandkaulen didn't let the delay slow him down, improving to 7-1 this season with a back-and-forth three-setter at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on the University of Tulsa campus.
The match proved to be even as the ITA rankings suggested, with Sandkaulen possessing a No. 25 ITA plaudit and opponent Kyle Seelig of Ohio State entering at No. 27.
Seelig jumped out to an early 6-3 advantage. The Rebel senior responded with a 6-3 decision to force a decisive third set. The finale proved as close with Sandkaulen earning another 6-3 winner and advancing to the second round.
He will face No. 4 Yuya Ito of Texas on Thursday at 9 a.m. Ito, who owns the 3-seed in the tournament, cruised past No. 115 Josh Charlton of Oregon, 6-3, 6-1.
