Postgame Quotes vs. Western Michigan

OLE MISS HEAD COACH KERMIT DAVIS
Opening statement…
"Give Western Michigan credit, I think they came out confident. They had won three games, and they won a road game. We came out flat, the ball didn't move, and we didn't play with toughness defensively. We played a bunch of different people trying to find some guys. The 2-3 zone kind of turned the game around with the rhythm of their offense. I thought that the last six or eight minutes of the first half, we competed well. The ball moved and we got in transition. We can be good in transition. Good win, any time you win in college basketball is great. We continue to defend, (holding them to) 33.9 percent, that is terrific. As long as we keep doing that, we're going to have a chance to be in a lot of games and win some big games. When you do that, hopefully you can build to win big games on the road."

On Khadim Sy and Sammy Hunter
"It was a lot better. I thought Dream (Khadim Sy) came out and had a lot of bounce. I thought he changed shots at the rim. I thought Sammy (Hunter) was more athletic. Sammy (Hunter) is just young. He doesn't know when to shoot or when not to shoot. He is a really good three-point shooter. We really started going inside during that period of time in the first half with them, and it kind of changed the game."

On KJ Buffen
"I thought the zone protected him some. We have to get Sammy (Hunter) to be able to guard the dribbler better. Now in college basketball, those four men, they can all drive it. I thought our 1-3-1 helped. It was the first time KJ (Buffen) has gotten into foul trouble. We put Antavion Collum in. I thought he struggled in the first half but played a lot better in the second half. I thought our bench play got much better in the second half."

On Luis Rodriguez
"He was just a lot more active. Six rebounds, 10 points, 4 of 4 from the line. I liked his energy. You could really see his athleticism rebounding the ball. He got some real college rebounds tonight."

On Breein Tyree
"Like I said, the ball just has to keep moving out of his hands. I tell Devontae (Shuler) and Breein (Tyree) that the ball finds the best players. When you run good offense, the ball will find the best players. You have to be willing to give it up, and I thought we did. We shared it better. He still hasn't had a really great night shooting, and we know that is coming when Devontae hits him with some passes off the break. Sixteen shots, only four threes, I thought that was good."

On Devontae Shuler
"He had three blocks. He was active. He only had one turnover tonight after he turned it over a little in the first two games. I thought in the second half, he was really good. He got himself going. It's fun to watch his development, and I hope he keeps making that kind of progress."

On Memphis and James Wiseman…
"It's not a coach's cliché. We just have to worry about getting ourselves better and beating Seattle. I think that everybody knows that in college basketball, anything can happen. We'll focus on the Memphis Tigers on Tuesday night after the Seattle game. With or without him (James Wiseman), they are very good. People can see how good their team is. And I think every time they've played without him, they're undefeated. They are really good with him and they are really good without him, but we have to get ready for Seattle on Tuesday."
