Men’s Tennis Announces 2020 Spring Schedule

11/21/2019 | Men's Tennis

Ole Miss begins its spring campaign in January

OXFORD, Miss. –The Ole Miss men's tennis team will look to advance to its 27th consecutive NCAA Tournament and 29th overall, but will have to battle through one of the nation's toughest spring schedules, which the team unveiled on Friday.

The Rebels will face nine SEC programs that also qualified for the 2019 NCAA Tournament, and at least another four NCAA teams as part of its non-conference slate.

Ole Miss begins its season at home with a pair of doubleheaders. North Alabama faces the Rebels in a duo of matches on Jan. 15 to open 2020, while Belmont and Jackson State go back-to-back against Ole Miss on Jan. 19.

The Rebels will then travel to their portion of the ITA Kickoff Weekend in Champaign, Illinois. No. 15 national seed Illinois will battle Ole Miss on Jan. 24. The Rebels will then face Michigan or Texas Tech on Jan. 25, with the winner of two matchups earning the right to compete in the National Team Indoors, Feb. 14-17, in Madison, Wisconsin.

Oklahoma State then journeys to Oxford on Jan. 31 for another key non-conference clash after the Rebels and Cowboys split a pair of matches last season. Ole Miss won in Stillwater while Oklahoma State advanced past the Rebels in the Los Angeles Regional of the NCAA Tournament.

The Rebels will end February at the Blue Gray Invite (Feb. 21-22), looking to carry over last year's success as the squad took down then-No. 16 ranked Alabama and finished as tournament runner ups.  The team travels to face another Big-12 squad in TCU on Feb. 28. The Horned Frogs were the No. 10 national seed a year ago.

Ole Miss will then begin its SEC slate in a suitcase with a trio of road matches beginning at Arkansas (March 1), then Georgia (March 6), and Tennessee (March 8).

The Rebels will then host their next seven contests at home throughout March. LSU (March 13) and Texas A&M (March 15) come to town followed by Florida (March 20) and South Carolina (March 22) the following weekend.

March ends with the Rebels hosting three Magnolia State rivals. Southern Miss and Alcorn State are the featured teams in another doubleheader on the 27th, while Mississippi State wraps up the month on March 29.

Auburn then welcomes the Rebels on April 3 before Ole Miss returns home to challenge Alabama on April 5 for Senior Day.

Ole Miss wraps up its SEC schedule at Kentucky (April 10) and Vanderbilt (April 12), and at the SEC Tournament, April 15-19. The Rebels will look to continue their streak and be one of 64 programs who participate in the 2020 NCAA Tournament, May 1-3.

A full promotional schedule will be unveiled in the coming weeks.
