Rebels Shoot Even Par Second Round to Move Six Spots Up Leaderboard

CHULA VISTA, Calif. – The Ole Miss men's golf team completed the first two rounds of the Lamkin San Diego Classic Monday. Ole Miss sits in sixth as a team (297-288—585) with Josh Seiple in the top-15 individually after the opening 36 holes in California.

The Rebels finished strong today after a morning 9-over 297, firing a second round even par 288 in round two. The starting five made 21 birdies on their way to the moving 6 spots up the leaderboard going into the final round Tuesday. The Rebels are fourth in the field in total birdies with 32.

Seiple got off to a good start in the morning with an opening round 1-under 71 and sits tied for 14th heading into the final round. The senior recorded an eagle on the par 5 14th hole and went 3-under through his first eight holes in round one. Seiple leads the team in pars with 24 and is nine shots off leader Pierceson Coody from Texas who is at 9-under.

Sarut Vongchaisit continued his good play today, shooting 72-75—147. The reigning SEC Freshman of the Week had consistent play on day one and is tied for 26th.

Beau Briggs had a bounce back 3-under 69 in the afternoon. The senior's second round was highlighted by a bogey-free back nine with four birdies and five pars on his way to moving 36 spots up the leaderboard.

Cecil Wegener joined Briggs with an under par round in the afternoon for the Rebels. The sophomore fired a 2-under 70 and leads the team in birdies with nine through 36 holes.

"It was great to see our guys bounce back after a rough first round," head coach Chris Malloy said. "We have to continue to do a better job of eliminating unforced errors and give ourselves better chances to string together good team rounds. We have traditionally played great in the final round of this event, so I expect nothing different tomorrow."

The final round begins Tuesday morning with tee times beginning at 10:54 a.m. CT off of hole No. 1. Ole Miss will be paired with players from Saint Mary's and San Diego State.
