Rebel Guard Lands on Second Team

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Ole Miss junior guard Breein Tyree was named second team all-district by the National Association of Basketball Coaches, the organization announced Thursday afternoon. Selected and voted on by member coaches of the NABC in NCAA Division I, these student-athletes represent the finest basketball players across America.

The accolades continue to pile up for Tyree, who became the first Rebels to earn NABC All-District honors since Stefan Moody in 2016. He has already been tabbed All-SEC (first team-coaches, second team-AP) and USBWA All-District. He was also a finalist for the Howell Trophy, awarded to the best college basketball player in the state of Mississippi.

Tyree is one the veteran leaders on the floor for Ole Miss, leading the Rebels to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in four years. His consistency has allowed him to become the team's leading scorer, averaging 18.2 ppg to rank third in the SEC. Tyree was also second in scoring during conference play (19.1 ppg). He ranks third in the conference in free throw percentage (83.1 percent) as well as seventh in three-pointers made (2.2 per game) and 10th in field goal percentage (46.5 percent), the only conference player to crack the SEC top 10 in scoring and those three shooting categories. The Somerset, New Jersey, native has scored at least 20 points in a team-high 17 games.

Tyree and the Rebels begin NCAA Tournament play tomorrow (Friday, March 22) in Columbia, South Carolina. No. 8 seed Ole Miss faces No. 9 seed Oklahoma at 11:40 a.m. CT on truTV.
