3/24/2019 | Women's Golf

AUBURN, Ala. – The Ole Miss women's golf team completed the second round of the Evans Derby Experience on Sunday, shooting an 8-over 296 to move into 11th place as a team.

Sophomore Julia Johnson remains in the top-10 individually after an even-par 72.

The Rebels tied for the fourth-lowest round of the day Sunday and are fourth in the field in total pars with 121. With 36 holes in the books, Ole Miss is 25-over par (305-296) and sits above two teams ranked higher in Golfstat's national rankings. No.3 Texas holds the team lead at 3-over, while two players are tied for the lead individually at 2-under.

"The course played tough today with windy conditions and we did a great job of staying committed all day," head coach Kory Henkes said. "We kept our mistakes to a minimum and fought hard until the last putt dropped."

Johnson shot another even-par 72 to keep her in the top-10 individually. The sophomore is third in the field in pars with 28 through 36 holes. Johnson will look to finish in the top-10 for the second time in as many weeks Monday, and has six rounds at par or under since the start of the spring season.

Macy Somoskey put together a solid second round 1-over 73 with one birdie, two bogeys and 15 pars. The freshman went bogey-free in a 13-hole stretch that featured a birdie on No. 18, a hole that just saw nine players make birdie on day one.

Ellen Hutchinson-Kay improved on day two shooting a second round 3-over 75. Conner Beth Ball shot a second round 4-over 76 with three birdies, leading the team on day two.

Pi-Lillebi Hermansson tied for the third lowest round of the day with a second round 1-under 71. The sophomore, playing as an individual, eagled her second to last hole, the par-5 eighth to move into red figures on the day.

Final round play begins Monday morning with a shotgun start at 8:15 a.m. CT. The Rebels will be paired with players from Clemson, Mississippi State and South Carolina.
