Rebels Hold Ground in Hootie at Bulls Bay

Seiple Fires a 72 to Pace Ole Miss in Round Two
CHARLESTON, S.C. – The first 36 holes are in the books for Ole Miss Men's Golf at The Hootie at Bulls Bay. The Rebels remain in 11th as a team, while freshman Jackson Suber is in the top-20 individually.
The back nine, actually the opening nine for the Red and Blue, proved tough on the second day as Ole Miss went 8-over on the hardest holes on the course. The Rebels bounced back on the front, including a stretch on holes 4, 5, and 6 that saw them go 7-under as a team to finish the day with a 6-over 294. While Ole Miss sits in 11th, a top-five finish is still within striking distance heading into the final round.
"We got off to another slow start and really had to battle back at the end of the round to salvage things today," head coach Chris Malloy said. "We are just committing a few too many careless mistakes around the greens that are holding us back. The good news is that they are easy things to correct. We had a great final round in this event last year and I expect the same out of this group tomorrow."
Suber kept in the top-20 individually today with a 1-over 73. The freshman went even-par on the tough back nine and had a birdie and two bogeys on the front. Suber has played the par 4's and par 5's under par this week, going 1-under on both.
Josh Seiple shot an even-par second round (72), a team low, that included four birdies. The senior is tied for 31st heading into the final round and has matched Suber for the team lead in birdies with nine after two rounds. Last year, Seiple shot a 4-under 68 in the final round to sneak into the top-10 individually.
Beau Briggs joined his fellow senior Seiple, tied for 31st overall after a second round 1-over 73. Following a 3-over 38 on his opening nine, he finished strong with a 2-under 35 coming home. The Covington, Louisiana, native ended his round by making birdie on the par-4 ninth. Briggs leads the team in pars with 26 through 36 holes.
During round two, Sarut Vongchaisit became one of just six players to eagle the par-5 sixth hole this week. The freshman shot a 4-over 76 on day two, and sits tied for 55th.
Final round play begins Tuesday morning with tee times beginning at 7:45 a.m. CT. Ole Miss will be paired with players from Kentucky and NC State. Last year at the event, Ole Miss shot a program-record 19-under 269 in the final round to claim the team title.
