Rising Senior Advances to Quarterfinals of Match Play
HOLDEN BEACH, N.C. – Ole Miss women's golf rising senior Kennedy Swann got off to a good start in her summer season after advancing to the quarterfinals of match play at the Women's Southern Amateur on Thursday.
The 104th running of the tournament was hosted by Lockwood Folly Golf Club in Holden Beach, North Carolina.
The Women's Southern Golf Association is an organization of golf clubs located in the states of Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia.
Players earn World Amateur Golf Ranking points and exemptions for their performance in the event and past winners include LPGA stats Stacy Lewis and Lexi Thompson.
Swann finished tied for 23rd out of 46 players in the stroke play portion after a 6-over 78 and went into match play as the 28th seed.
The Austin, Texas, native took the No. 5 seed Emily Hawkins, a rising sophomore at Campbell, to extra holes and eventually won on the 21st hole to advance on Wednesday.
Swann matched up with Payton Shanen, a rising senior at Mercer, in the second round, winning 2-up to advance to the top-eight.
Swann fell to defending champion Calynne Rosholt in the quarterfinals, 5-and-4, on Thursday afternoon.
