Ball Set to Compete in 119th U.S. Women’s Amateur

Starkville Native Will Compete at Old Waverly Golf Club
WEST POINT, Miss. – Ole Miss women's golf junior Conner Beth Ball is set to compete at this year's U.S. Women's Amateur and will play against some of the best amateurs in the world at Old Waverly Golf Club, Aug. 5-11.
Over 1,375 entries were accepted for the 156-player field. Ball qualified out of Roswell, Georgia, at Brookfield Country Club. She shot a 1-under 71 and was one of eight to come out of the site.
Ball, whose family lives in nearby Starkville, will play in front of friends and family on the course she grew up learning the game on one of golf's biggest amateur stages.
"I feel extremely grateful to be able to play in another USGA event," Ball said. "It's always nice to have the hometown feel when you're playing in tournaments, especially one of this caliber.
"I'm very excited to have all my friends and family out supporting me next week. It's really going to make me remember how lucky I am to be able to play this game and just remind me to have fun out there."
This won't be the first time Ball has been a part of a major women's event at Old Waverly. When she was just nine months old, Ball was in the gallery at the 1999 U.S. Women's Open with her grandparents.
The junior will tee off Monday morning, at 7:15 a.m., off hole No. 1, for the first round of stroke play. Ball is paired with an 11-year-old amateur who is the third youngest to qualify for the U.S. Women's Amateur in its 119-year history. Ball's second round tee time is set for 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
Following the two rounds of stroke play, the field will be cut to 64 for match play to determine the champion. From Aug. 7-10, the rounds of 64, 32, and 16 will be aired on FS1.
