Previewing the Rebel Midfielders Ahead of the 2019 Season

OXFORD, Miss. โ€“ In the second of a three-part series, OleMissSports.com takes a look at the Rebel soccer team's group of midfielders ahead of Thursday night's season opener against North Alabama.
ย
The Rebels return three players in the middle of the park, all three primary starters in 2018 in Julia Phillips, Molly Martin and Haleigh Stackpole.
ย
Phillips, one of three team captains this season, begins her final collegiate season having started 32 games in two years after transferring from Florida State. Providing a link between the back line and the attacking third, Phillips scored three goals and added an assist as a sophomore in 2017.
ย
After mostly coming on as a reserve as a freshman and scoring three goals with two assists, Martin made the starting XI 14 times in 2018. The Memphis native logged 1,143 minutes on the pitch as a sophomore, registering one assist and heading home the lone goal in Ole Miss' victory at Alabama.
ย
Starting every match as a true freshman, Stackpole racked up the second most minutes of any Rebel in 2018. On her way to SEC All-Freshman Team recognition, the Ft. Bragg, North Carolina product ranked third on the team with five goals, chipping in three assists for 13 points. Of Stackpole's five scores, four were game-winners, including a free kick score to lift the Rebs over No. 7 Vanderbilt.
ย
A talented class of five freshmen has also been added to Ole Miss' midfield corps in Fain Buete, Saydie Holland, Jenna Kemp, Elyse Reed and Jillian Rhian.
ย
Buete was a three-time all-conference and all-region standout at Heritage High School in Wake Forest, North Carolina, earning a state championship ring in spring of 2019. Holland became the all-time leader in goals and assists during her lauded career at Sycamore High School in Sycamore, Illinois. She helped the Spartans to four-straight state titles as well as a national finals appearance in 2018.
ย
In four seasons at Houston High School in Germantown, Tennessee, Kemp scored 52 goals with 51 assists, helping the Mustangs to three state championships. She pulled in numerous accolades, including three all-state and all-region nods, the 2017 Tennessee Gatorade Player of the Year Award and back-to-back All-America laurels in 2017-18.
ย
Splitting her high school career between Bernards High School in Bernardsville, New Jersey and Carmel High School in Carmel, Indiana, Reed twice earned all-conference honors while leading the Greyhounds to the state championship in 2018. Meanwhile, Rhian played five varsity seasons at Presbyterian Christian School in Hattiesburg, scoring 81 goals with 50 assists while earning all-conference nods in 2017 and 2018.
