Rebels Get the Ball Rolling on 2019 Season

OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss soccer opened up training for the 2019 season on Tuesday, hitting the pristine pitch at the Ole Miss Soccer Stadium for the first time with an early morning session after the team officially reported back to Oxford on Monday.

The Rebels will return for an 11 vs. 11 intrasquad under the lights tonight as preparations heat up for the season's first exhibition matchup against Samford Aug. 12 in Oxford.

"It was awesome to be back out on the pitch today with the team," said head coach Matt Mott. "With 15 returners and 10 freshmen it's really a new group for us this year. Our fitness level is at an all-time high. Now it's time to come together as a team."

Monday's meeting against Samford will be the first of two preseason exhibitions for the Rebels, who will also travel to Conway, Arkansas for a friendly with the Bears of Central Arkansas on Aug. 16. The regular season kicks off for Ole Miss on Aug. 22, taking on North Alabama in Oxford.

"With our first exhibition just six days away we have a lot of work to do and I know this group and our staff are ready for the challenge of this season," said Mott. "This will be a fun team to watch!"

Additionally, the United Soccer Coaches announced the 2019 Preseason Coaches Poll Tuesday afternoon, with Ole Miss garnering 18 votes.
