Ole Miss Suffers Setback at Tennessee

Tyree Becomes 14th Rebel to Score 1,500 Career Points
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – In a late road game Tuesday night, the Ole Miss men's basketball team fell 73-48 to the Tennessee Volunteers at Thompson-Boling Arena.
As a team, the Rebels (9-9, 0-5 SEC) controlled the glass 38-33 with the help of 14 offensive rebounds. Breein Tyree scored 18 points to lead Ole Miss, becoming the 14th Rebel in school history to score at least 1,500 points. Devontae Shuler added 11 points and five rebounds, making five of his 10 shot attempts.
John Fulkerson's double-double (18 points, 10 rebounds) paced the Volunteers (12-6, 4-2 SEC). Tennessee shot 49.0 percent throughout the night, while connecting on 20 of 24 attempts (83.3 percent) from the free throw line.
Bryce Williams came in off the bench and scored five of the Rebels' first nine points. He knocked down a three from the wing before the Volunteers scored 11 straight points to go up a dozen. Tennessee lived up to their statistics as one of the best defensive teams in the country, holding Ole Miss to 8 of 33 (24.2 percent) in the first half. Meanwhile, the Volunteers shot 51.9 percent (14 of 27). Fulkerson was perfect in the opening 20 minutes, going 6 of 6 from the floor as well as making all four free throws for 16 points.
Tennessee maintained a comfortable cushion for the remainder of the contest. Despite Tyree scoring 14 points in the second half, the Volunteers protected their floor for a home victory. Redshirt-freshman and Memphis native John McBride appeared in his first SEC game, registering his first career block and adding a rebound in the final minute.
Up next, Ole Miss will play its fifth road contest over the past seven games when it invades Georgia to battle the Bulldogs (Jan. 25). Tipoff is slated for 4:30 p.m. CT on SEC Network.
