Rebels Head to Rival Territory to Compete in Round Robin Matches

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Ole Miss women's tennis will compete in matches against competitors from Mississippi State and Alabama on Friday and Sunday.

Eight Rebels will compete against the Bulldogs and Crimson Tide in two days of singles and doubles matches at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Center (outdoors) and the newly-constructed Rula Tennis Pavilion (indoors).

All matches will consist of no-ad scoring with doubles being a single-set match and singles a best of three sets. In singles, a third-set super tiebreaker will be played when splitting the first two sets on Friday, while Sunday will have standard set scoring. No fans are permitted to attend this weekend's event due to COVID-19 health and safety protocols.

Not Missing a Step

After a lengthy time away from the court, the Ole Miss Rebels returned to action last weekend at the Music City Scramble, winning nine singles and seven doubles matches. Senior Sabina Machalova led the way, winning four out of five matches in three days of competition. A key to the Rebels' success was their ability to win contested matches, as Ole Miss won four of six third-set super tiebreakers in Nashville against Vanderbilt, Auburn, and Tennessee.

Enter Guidiseva

Eesha Gudiseva makes her Ole Miss debut this weekend against highly-ranked conference opponents. Gudiseva, a four-star recruited freshman, comes to Oxford via Memphis, Tennessee. She is a four-time member of the Tennessee Southern Cup, two-time Best of Preps Champion, and was a USTA Icy Hot Southern Championship finalist in singles.

Scouting the Field

The Bulldog's Emma Antonaki, who ended last season ranked No. 88, is the highest ranked opponent the Rebels will face this weekend in singles. Mississippi State also returns the doubles pairing of Magda Adaloglou and Tamara Racine, who concluded last season ranked No. 56.

The Crimson Tide feature the highest ranked doubles team this weekend, Isabella Harvison and Moka Ito, who finished last season ranked No. 49, four spots ahead of the Rebels' duo of Alexa Bortles and Sabina Machalova.
