Men’s Tennis Starts Strong at Day One of Auburn Invitational

Brady Draheim Wins Twice in Ole Miss Debut
AUBURN, Ala. – Ole Miss men's tennis opened its 2020-21 season in strong fashion, winning four out of its five matches on day one of three at the Auburn Invitational on Friday.
Four Ole Miss players in competition were split two and two between the morning session at 9 a.m. CT vs. Auburn and the afternoon session at 2 p.m. against Alabama. Each session began with doubles in eight game pro-set scoring, followed by standard singles play.
vs. Auburn
Ole Miss opened the season in doubles play against the Tigers, with Jan Soren Hain and Cotter Wilson falling, 8-3, to Auburn's Tim Dollman and Spencer Gray. This was the first time that Hain and Wilson have partnered together in doubles in their careers.
In singles, Wilson faced off against Auburn's Diego Chavarria, jumping out to an early lead and ultimately prevailing in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4, for the first Rebel win of the season.
vs. Alabama
Ole Miss was firing on all cylinders against Alabama, winning all three of its matches against the Crimson Tide.
Rebel newcomer Brady Draheim and ITA All-American Tim Sandkaulen started their season off strong with an 8-2 victory over Alabama's Edson Ortiz and Marcelo Sepulveda Garza in their first career match playing together.
Draheim clashed against Alabama's Alexey Nesterov in singles, emerging victorious with a straight-set 6-4, 6-2 win. Draheim earned a quality victory over Nesterov, who compiled an Alabama-best 21 singles victories last season.
Sandkaulen squared off against Ortiz in singles directly after meeting in doubles. He defeated Ortiz in two hard-fought sets by a score of 6-4, 7-5. Sandkaulen and Ortiz entered the match with highly-touted pedigrees and a prior history. Sandkaulen ended the 2020 season ranked No. 68, while Ortiz ended last season ranked No. 74. Both were voted to the All-SEC teams in 2018 and 2019, and Ortiz emerged as the victor the last time they faced each other on Feb. 22.

The Rebels will return to action tomorrow at 9 a.m. CT for day two of the Auburn Invitational.
