Women’s Tennis Concludes Fall Season at SEC Challenge

Rebels Travel to Tuscaloosa to Conclude 2020 Season
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Ole Miss women's tennis will finish the fall against three SEC opponents Friday and Saturday.
Six Ole Miss student-athletes will compete against Auburn, Mississippi State, and LSU in two days of singles and doubles matches at the University of Alabama Tennis Stadium. In each matchup, doubles will be played first followed by singles. Outdoor fan attendance will be pass-list only, and no fans are permitted to attend indoor matches due to COVID-19 health and safety protocols.
No Rest for the Wickets
The Ole Miss Rebels are competing in their third-straight weekend tournament. Three events are the maximum quantity permitted for the fall 2020 season under SEC COVID-19 precautionary measures. Last weekend, the Rebels claimed 13 total victories across two days of competition at the 2020 Hail State Classic.
Dandy Doubles
Ole Miss heads to Tuscaloosa with a 14-6 mark in doubles matches this fall, with the Rebels' top duo of Alexa Bortles and Sabina Machalova entering this weekend with a 5-1 record. Pairing with two different teammates, Tiphanie Fiquet also has a 5-1 record in doubles. The Rebels have set the tone for tournaments through outstanding opening doubles play. Ole Miss has dominated day one competition, winning nine of 10 matches in the first two events on the first day of action.
Scouting the Field
The Rebels face the LSU Tigers for the first time this season. The nine-member LSU team is comprised of four seniors compared to only one freshman. Top-ranked singles player senior Taylor Bridges concluded last season ranked No. 36, while doubles duo Nina Geissler and Eden Richardson finished last season ranked No. 26.
Ole Miss has competed against both Auburn and Mississippi State this season, going 2-4 against Auburn in singles and 3-0 in doubles, while notching a 2-1 singles record and a 1-1 split in doubles against MSU.
