Rebels Won Three Singles and Two Doubles Matches on Friday
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Ole Miss women's tennis won five of seven matches against Alabama, Auburn and Mississippi State at first day of the SEC Challenge on Friday.
The Rebels faced-off against three repeat opponents from this season, winning four matches against Auburn and one against Alabama. The Rebels also continued their success on day one of tournaments this season, sweeping doubles again on Friday.
In doubles, the Rebels won one match against both the Tigers and the Crimson Tide. For the second time this season, Alexa Bortles and Sabina Machalova defeated the Tiger's Shir Azran and Taylor Russo. Bortles and Machalova won 6-4 on Friday, after previously defeating Azron and Russo 6-3 on October 10. Tiphanie Fiquet and Lillian Gabrielsen defeated Alabama's Anne Marie Hiser and Sydney Orefice in seven total games, 6-1. Bortles, Fiquet, and Machalova all improved to 6-1 this season in doubles.
In singles, the Rebels garnered three straight-set wins against Auburn. Machalova defeated Yu Chen, 6-2, 6-3, to improve to 4-1 this fall. Fiquet defeated Georige Axon 6-1, 6-2, to improve to 5-2 this fall. Gabrielsen collected her second singles win of the fall with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Adeline Flach. Ole Miss improved to 5-5 in singles against Auburn this season.
