Ole Miss Head Soccer Coach Recaps Arkansas, Previews Georgia
Ole Miss Soccer Head Coach Matt Mott met with members of the media on Monday as part of his weekly press conference. Coach Mott recapped this past week's match against No. 7 Arkansas before previewing the next match versus Georgia.
Opening Statement…
"We took a tough loss last night, 2-1, to the No. 7 team in the country, Arkansas. They're first in the league right now and first in our division. It was a good game, really hard-fought. Unfortunately, we went down 2-0, that second goal late in the first half really probably killed us in the end. But we created some good chances in the first half and just couldn't find the back of the net. We had a few really good looks.
"And then in the second half, they had control in the beginning of it, but we started to get into the game a little bit more and got a really good goal from Mo O'Connor off of a corner. Haleigh Stackpole played in a really good corner that kind of bounced around a little, and Mo was the first one to it. So good goal for her with about 11 minutes left but we couldn't find the equalizer to try and get it into overtime.
"We've got two games left before we head to The Beach. We're sitting tied for eighth in the league. All 14 teams go, but positioning is really important at this point. We play Georgia this Saturday night at home for our senior night. We have the one senior we're recognizing in Chanel Thomas, who's been a great player for us for four years, a great student, I can't say enough about Chanel and what she's done for our program, so we want to send her out the right way certainly on senior night. It's a really good Georgia team, they're very close to us in the points, so it should be a really good game. I've got a lot of respect for those guys and the job they do over at Georgia. Expect a good soccer game, both teams trying to pass the ball and be dangerous. And then we end the following Saturday at Vanderbilt to finish it off before we head down to the conference tournament."
