Channing Foster Named Honorable Mention
OXFORD, Miss. – Following a standout performance that included a season-high in saves and an assist on the game-winning goal in the 2-1 overtime win at No. 13 Vanderbilt, Ole Miss goalkeeper Ashley Orkus has been named to the SEC Team of the Week, announced Tuesday.
In addition to Orkus, Ole Miss' Channing Foster was also recognized after scoring the winner of the Commodores, earning Honorable Mention Team of the Week designation. Orkus becomes the first Rebel to land on the Team of the Week since CeCe Kizer did so in 2018.
The Vestavia Hills, Alabama, native was a brick wall between the posts in Nashville, setting up the thrilling comeback by keeping the deficit at a single goal. The junior made nine saves on the night, none bigger than a 1-on-1 kick save on Alex Kerr's breakaway attempt in the 44th minute.
After showing out all night in goal, Orkus made her way up the field to deliver a perfectly placed free kick in the third minute of the extra period. Rebel midfielder Molly Martin was first to it, flicking it on to Foster, who redirected to score the golden goal and hand Ole Miss a crucial road victory.
The assist was the third in the last two matches for Orkus, who along with Martin ranks tied for fourth in the SEC and 18th in the nation in assists per match.
