Senior Striker Bagged Crucial Brace in Rebels’ 4-3 Victory Over No. 14 Georgia

OXFORD, Miss. – In recognition of her heroics off the bench in Ole Miss' thrilling 4-3 victory over No. 14 Georgia on Saturday, senior forward Madisyn Pezzino has been named the SEC Offensive Player of the Week for Week 7, announced Monday by the conference office.

It is the first weekly plaudit of Pezzino's career and the first SEC Player of the Week laurel for the Rebs since Ashley Orkus received the defensive award on Oct. 21, 2019.

The Rebel super sub was critical in Ole Miss erasing deficits of 2-0 and 3-2 against the Bulldogs, registering her first brace since her Rebel debut in the season opener against Louisiana in 2018. The Grand Island, New York, native made good use of her 36 minutes of action, putting away two of her three shot attempts.

Pezzino's initial impact came in the 36th minute, getting on the end of Molly Martin's flicked header from Orkus. Pezzino tracked down the ball on the right side of the 6-yard box, cutting a shot back across goal and squeezing it inside the far post to level the match at two apiece.

After Georgia regained the lead in the second half, it was once again Pezzino who clawed the Rebels back. Mere moments after having her free kick rocket ricochet agonizingly off of the cross bar, Pezzino was once gain picked out from a Martin flick off an Orkus delivery. The Rebel No. 26 met the ball in stride and hit it sweetly on the volley with her left, beating the keeper near post to tie the contest at 3-3 in the 84th minute.

That set up for a dramatic finish as Ole Miss' Channing Foster buried a free kick with just 20 ticks left on the clock, securing three crucial points in one of the wildest affairs ever seen at the Ole Miss Soccer Stadium.

Ole Miss will look to keep the momentum going into the regular season finale, heading to Nashville to take on Vanderbilt on Saturday, Nov. 7 before preparing for the following week's SEC Tournament in Orange Beach, Alabama.
