Rebels Head to Georgia for Prestigious Event

ATHENS, Ga. – Ole Miss men's tennis faces three SEC opponents at the 53rd Southern Intercollegiate Championships this weekend from Friday to Sunday.

Four Ole Miss student-athletes will compete against Auburn, Florida and Georgia in three days of matches at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex. The Rebels will compete each morning at 9 a.m. CT. Fan attendance will be limited to a pass list basis. The Southern Intercollegiate Championships is the final of three fall events for the Rebels this season.

Breaking Back

The Ole Miss Rebels are coming off a tough weekend at the Bulldog Challenge (October 23-25), where the Rebels started out hot with three wins on day one before slowing down over the remainder. The Rebels will attempt to keep that early success rolling, as Ole Miss has started strong at prior events this season, winning seven of 11 matches during day one competition. Ole Miss squares-off against homecourt Georgia on the first day of competition Friday.

Senior Leadership

All-American Tim Sandkaulen has led the Rebels in singles this season. After winning two of three matches at each of the first two events, Sandkaulen has an overall record of 4-2. Getting ahead early in matches has been crucial for his success, as he is 4-0 when winning the first set.

Scouting the Field

Ole Miss faces Georgia for the first time this season, which finished No. 11 in the ITA team rankings last spring season. Georgia returns two top-15 ranked singles players this season to their roster, Trent Bryde and Philip Henning. In doubles, Bryde and Tyler Zink ranked No. 15, and Henning and Blake Croyder ranked No. 26 nationally. Last time Ole Miss faced Georgia (March 8), the Rebels won one singles and one doubles match in a loss to the Bulldogs.

The Rebels squared off against the Tigers and Gators at the Auburn Invitational last month (October 2-4). In four matches against Auburn, Ole Miss won twice in singles and lost twice in doubles. In two matches against Florida, The Rebels won in doubles and lost in singles.
