Ole Miss Rifle Places Sixth at GARC Championships

Rebels Combine for 4666 Points in Two-Day League Competition
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The No. 11 Ole Miss rifle team tallied a two-day total of 4666 points to finish sixth out of nine teams at the GARC Rifle Championships held at the Larry O. Finch Center on the University of Memphis campus.
The Rebels fired a 2313 in smallbore on Friday and finished Saturday with an additional 2353 points in air rifle.
No. 1 Kentucky ended No. 3 West Virginia's 10-year reign as GARC champions with an impressive 4711 total, besting the Mountaineers by 18 points. Will Shaner of Kentucky was the air rifle individual winner.
Rebel junior Abby Buesseler shot in the 590s for the sixth time on the season on Saturday with a team-high 591. Right behind were sophomore Erin Walsh and freshman Kristen Derting who tallied 588 points each.
Derting was the top Rebel shooter across both days with an 1170 aggregate total after finishing sixth in smallbore on Friday.
In her final collegiate match, senior Alana Kelly posted a solid 586 air rifle to complete the Ole Miss scoring. Junior Emily Cock also posted a 586 for a season best as a non-counter.
Buesseler will represent the Rebels at the 2020 NCAA Rifle Championships after earning the right on Feb. 22 to compete as an at-large individual qualifier. She will take part in the smallbore competition on Friday, March 13 in Lexington, Kentucky.
