Miller Leads Rebels on Moving Day at Cabo Collegiate

3/2/2020 | Men's Golf

CABO SAN LUCAS, Mexico – The No. 32 Ole Miss men's golf team wrapped up second round play at the Cabo Collegiate Monday afternoon. The Rebels shot a 6-over 290 on moving day and sit in a tie for 11th heading into the final round Tuesday morning.

Ole Miss' two-round total of 8-over 576 (286-290) has them 23 strokes back of first place No. 14 Arizona.

"I was really surprised that we struggled as much as we did today," head coach Chris Malloy said. "These guys have been preparing for everything that was thrown at them, and we just simply failed to execute out there. There is no doubt that we will regroup and be better tomorrow."

Charlie Miller paced the Rebels with a 2-under 69, his fourth-straight round of par-or-better this spring. Starting on No. 5, Miller went bogey-bogey but bounced back going 4-under bogey-free over his next 12 holes. The sophomore found trouble on the par-4 first, making a double, but quickly got back into red figures with back-to-back birdies to finish his round. Behind six birdies in round two, he is in a tie for 19th at 2-under (71-69—140) headed into the final 18 holes.

It was the second straight day the Rebels were paced by a 2-under 69.

Jackson Suber bounced back with a 1-under 70. The sophomore is second on the team in birdies with eight, six coming on moving day Monday. Suber struggled on the tough back nine but rallied to go 3-under bogey-free on the front to finish with his 15th round of par-or-better this season. Suber is in a tie for 45th at 2-over (74-70—144).

Jack Gnam shot a 2-over 74 Monday and is tied for 37th at 1-over for the tournament (69-74—143). The sophomore recorded three birdies during his second round, including two on par 5s.

The final round begins Tuesday morning with a 9 am CT shotgun start. Ole Miss will be paired with No. 42 Alabama, No. 50 Arkansas, and No. 29 California.
