Ole Miss Will Face Georgia in First Round of SEC Tournament

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Facing its rival on the road to end the regular season, the Ole Miss men's basketball team suffered a 69-44 loss to Mississippi State Saturday evening. A late first half run broke open a tie game as the Bulldogs (20-11, 11-7 SEC) protected their home court.

Devontae Shuler scored 16 points to lead the Rebels (15-16, 6-12 SEC), while Breein Tyree added 11 to go along with a team-high seven rebounds.

MSU was led by Reggie Perry, who produced a double-double with 22 points and 14 rebounds. After the Rebels kept him scoreless in the first matchup of the season, Nick Weatherspoon scored 11 points on 4 of 11 shooting. Robert Woodard II recorded 11 points as well.

The game started as a scoring battle between Shuler and Perry. While Shuler scored seven of the Rebels' first nine points, Perry had seven of MSU's 10 to give the home team an early one-point lead. While the Bulldogs grabbed the lead multiple times, Ole Miss answered to tie the contest on four occasions. Shuler did it twice, and his second stepback jumper knotted things up at 21-21 and moved the junior into double figures (11 points).

A 10-0 run helped MSU grab momentum over the final six minutes of the first half, taking a 39-25 lead at the break behind 18 points from Perry. The Bulldogs were able to get to the free throw line and found success there, going 14 of 16 (87.5 percent) throughout the first 20 minutes. Perry was a perfect 8 for 8 from the stripe.

MSU increased its cushion in the second half to prevent a Rebel comeback, evening the season series following Ole Miss' win in Oxford last month.

Up next, the Rebels head to Nashville for the SEC Tournament. As the No. 12 seed, Ole Miss will face the No. 13 seed Georgia Bulldogs in the first round (March 11). Tipoff from Bridgestone Arena is slated for 6 p.m. on SEC Network.
