Rebel Trio Ranked No. 2, 12, 21 on United States Side
NORMAN, Okla. – Ole Miss women's golf stars Julia Johnson, Kennedy Swann and Conner Beth Ball all rose in the second edition of the spring Arnold Palmer Cup rankings. The Rebel trio are ranked No. 2, 12 and 21 respectively.
The Arnold Palmer Cup, which was co-founded by Arnold Palmer and the Golf Coaches Association of America, is a Ryder Cup-style tournament featuring the top men's and women's university/college golfers matching the United States against a team of International players.
Johnson, Swann and Ball are in contention to be selected for the 2020 running of the tournament, which will be played July 3-5 at Lahinch Golf Club in Lahinch, Ireland.
12 committee selections were made last week, and the top six golfers from the final ranking in the spring from both the United States and International men and women - 12 total golfers - will be among the 24 individuals selected to compete.
Using Golfstat's NCAA player rankings as a base, the Arnold Palmer Cup Ranking awards bonus points for wins and high finishes and a penalty for poor finishes. The ranking also contains a strength of schedule component.
The next Arnold Palmer Cup rankings will be announced March 19.
The six Arnold Palmer Cup Ranking selections will be made on March 25 on Golf Central on Golf Channel, along with two additional committee selections for the United States and one additional committee selection for the International side.
Ball has appeared in three events this season, finishing top-10 in the last two of the fall. She is one of three Rebels to average under par per 18 holes (71.67), good for seventh in the SEC.
Johnson has finished inside the top-15 in every event this season with two top-5s, including an individual win at the Battle at the Beach in November. She leads the conference in terms of stroke average (70.72).
Swann has finished no worse than a tie for 17th in every event this season, including an individual win at the Illini Women's Invitational at Medinah. She is seventh in the conference in scoring average (71.39).
The Rebels return to the course, March 14-15, for the Valspar Augusta Invitational in Augusta, Georgia.
