Sophomore Golfer Actively Involved in the Community
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Ole Miss sophomore Charlie Miller was named to the 2020 SEC Men's Golf Community Service Team, the league office announced Wednesday. Involved in a variety of activities assisting the Oxford community, Miller received the recognition for the first time in his career.
As a Mississippi native, Miller has made it a point to provide an impact on the local community during his time as a Rebel. Ever since stepping onto campus, he has participated in Adopt-A-Basket; in 2019, the athletics department donated 60 Thanksgiving baskets to families in need throughout the community, and Miller assisted with the collection.
The sophomore participated in a wide variety of activities this past year, including Hope To Dream, which surprised 50 children in the Mississippi area with an entire bed set. Visiting elementary classrooms to read to students and to talk about the importance of good behavior, Miller was active in Reading with the Rebels. He also helped in the organization of A Night to Shine, an unforgettable prom night for 125 guests with special needs. Finally, Miller served as a member of the Ole Miss Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
On the course, Miller played in four tournaments before the season was cancelled mid-spring due to the coronavirus . The Jackson, Mississippi, native finished par-or-better in three of those events, posting a season stroke average of 71.83 that ranked second on the team. He fired eight rounds of par-or-better, including four rounds in the 60s. Leading the Rebels at the Cabo Collegiate, Miller fired a 213 (71-69-73) for a new career best over 54 holes. Closing out the fall, Miller helped the Rebels place runner-up at the Hoakalei Country Club Invitational in Hawaii. Starting off with a personal-low 65 (-7) in the opening round, he finished tied for 19th (65-77-72—214).
