Two Doubles Teams Advance to ITA Southern Quarterfinals

AUBURN, Ala. – Ole Miss men's tennis made a strong showing for the first day of the main draw at the ITA Southern Championships on Saturday. The Rebels will have two doubles teams competing in the doubles quarterfinals on Sunday with the potential to meet in the semifinals.

All three Ole Miss doubles teams in the ITA Southern Regional Championships received round of 64 byes and won at least one match on Saturday. Jakob Cadonau and Lukas Engelhardt improved to 5-0 this season by defeating Jacksonville State's Mah Tomac and Vanja Dobmjac in the round of 32 and LSU's Vlad Lobak and Gabriel Diaz Freire in the round of 16. Nikola Slavic and Simon Junk reached the quarterfinals by defeating Louisiana's Vasil Dimitrov and Oriol Fillat Gimenez in the round of 32 and taking down top-seeded Mississippi State duo Florian Broska and Gregor Ramskogler in the round of 16. Finn Reynolds and John Hallquist Lithén advanced to the round of 16 via defeating UAV opponents, 8-4, and fell to Auburn's Tyler Stice and Jan Galka, 8-7 (5)

In singles, Slavic, Junk and Finn Reynolds won their Round of 32 matches. Slavic defeated Alabama's Juan Martin in straight sets, and Junk and Reynolds won their matches in three sets. Reynolds received the No. 1 seed in the draw and Slavic received the No. 3 seed. John Hallquist Lithén and Engelhardt fell in their opening round matchups on Saturday. Engelhardt reached the main draw by winning three matches in qualifiers on Friday.
