Senior Midfielder Scored Game-Winner in Win Over Vanderbilt
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – For the second consecutive week, Ole Miss has been recognized in the SEC's weekly soccer awards, with senior Haleigh Stackpole being named the conference's offensive player of the week, announced Monday.
The recognition comes just a week after a pair of Rebels were tapped by the league office, as Ole Miss' Channing Foster and Ashley Orkus were named SEC Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively. It is the third career SEC weekly award for Stackpole after garnering offensive player of the week honors last season and earning a freshman of the week nod in 2018.
The senior tallied the only goal of Ole Miss' 1-0 victory over Vanderbilt on Sunday, giving the Rebels the lead less than seven minutes into the match. The box-to-box midfielder was also instrumental in Ole Miss' efforts to hold onto the lead for the proceeding 83 minutes, giving the Rebels their second straight clean sheet.
The goal was the fourth of the season for Stackpole, who ranks second in the nation with 13 assists on the year. The Bowling Green, Kentucky, native has either scored or assisted on 15 of Ole Miss' last 21 goals.
Stackpole and the Rebels look to stay hot as they hit the road on Saturday, taking on Missouri at 6 p.m. CT. The match will be streamed live via SEC Network +.
