Engelhardt and Junk Advance to Round of 64 of ITA All-American Prequalifying

Two Rebels Win Two Matches Each in First Day of Competition
TULSA, Okla. – Five Ole Miss Rebels competed at day one of the ITA All-American Championships singles tournament at the University of Tulsa on Saturday. Two Rebels, Lukas Engelhardt and Simon Junk, advanced to the Round of 64 of Prequalifying on Sunday.
Walker Stearns, Jakob Cadonau, Jan Soren Hain, Engelhardt and Junk competed in the opening day of competition in Tulsa. Stears, Hain, Engelhardt and Junk earned first round victories. Engelhardt and Junk proceeded to advance in the Round of 128 to the Round of 256. All-day competition on Saturday began at 8 a.m. CT with final evening matches starting at 8 p.m. CT.
Engelhardt earned his first victory of the day on Saturday morning, defeating Wisconsin's Sebastian Vile 6-4, 6-1. Engelhardt dropped the opening set, 3-6, to Wake Forest's Matthew Thomson in the proceeding round, but rebounded to take the second set 6-3. Engelhardt was then able to win the deciding super-tiebreak 10-4 to defeat Thomson. Engelhardt will face Pepperdine's Eric Hadigian tomorrow.
Junk battled past Arizona State's Spencer Brachman 6-7 (2), 6-1, 1-0 (11-9) in the opening round and followed it up by winning in straight sets, 7-6 (5), 6-2, over Indiana's Carson Haskins. Junk will face Texas' Nevin Arimilli tomorrow in the Prequalifying Round of 64.
Hain defeated Toldedo's Krzystof Wetoszka in the first round, but later withdrew midway through his Round of 128 match due to injury. Stearns also reached the Round of 128, advancing through the first round via walkover, and falling in a close match to Tennessee Tech's Carlos Vicente.
Cadonau fell to DePaul's Trip Tuff in the Round of 256 on Saturday morning. Cadonau is scheduled to play Ricardo Alban (UT-Arlington) and Stearns will play Blaz Seric (Hawaii) in the Pre Qualifying Consolation Draw tomorrow.
Competition in the ITA All-American Championships runs through Sunday, Oct. 10. The final 16 players from Prequalifying will advance to the Qualifying draw (feeding into the final 64-person Main Draw).
