Rifle Falls to West Virginia at Home

OXFORD, Miss. – No. 2 Ole Miss rifle fell to GARC foe West Virginia at home on Saturday, 4733-4683.
 
The Rebels fired a team score of 2319 in smallbore and 2364 in air rifle, led by senior Abby Buesseler with an 1172 aggregate mark. 
 
Ole Miss and West Virginia split up into two relays, with counters on both. Megan Taylor, Claire O'Neel, M'Leah Lambdin and Buesseler shot on the first relay, followed by Erin Walsh, Jillian Zakrzesky, Martina Gratz and Katelyn Tinsley on the second.
 
Buesseler and Zakrzeski paced the counters in smallbore, firing marks of 583. Making her collegiate debut, Lambdin posted a strong 577, and Walsh turned in a 576 to round out the scoring for the counters. Gratz finished with a career-high 584, although her score didn't factor into the mix.
 
In air rifle, O'Neel tied her career-high with a mark of 594. Walsh posted the next best score among counters with a 592, while Gratz and Buesseler recorded identical scores of 589 to cap things off. Lambdin fired an impressive 593 in her first match; however, her mark didn't factor into the scoring.
 
Tal Engler, along with five other Mountaineers, turned in the top six scores in the match. Enger posted an 1188 aggregate score to lead WVU to a 4733 team score (2348 smallbore and. 2385 air rifle).
 
The Rebels are back in action next week. They'll look to bounce back on the road at Murray State on Oct. 10.
