Hartono Defeats World No. 85 Danka Kovinic

Ole Miss Alum Arianne Hartono Upsets Top Seed, Reaches Semifinals of ITF W80+H Le Neubourg
RUE de SAINT-COLOMBE, France – Ole Miss alum and Rebel tennis standout Arianne Hartono earned her second top-100 victory on within two weeks while reaching the Semifinals of the ITF W80+H Le Neubourg at the Le Nerbourg Tennis Club on Saturday.
Hartono earned her second top-100 victory this season by defeating No. 1 seed Danka Kovinic in the Singles Round of 16. Mintenegro's Kovinic currently ranks No. 85 in the WTA rankings and has a career-high ranking of No. 46 in the world. The Dutch Rebel alum strung together a come-from-behind victory to reach the Quarterfinals at Le Neubourg.
In the Quarterfinals on Friday Hartono defeated Italy's Cristiana Ferrando in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4. Hartono won 52 percent of points (39/75) on return en route to the Semifinals
Hartono's inspiring tournament run came to an end on Saturday as she fell 6-1, 6-1 to No. 3 seed Romanian Mihaeka Buzarnescu. Buzarnescu currently ranks No. 148 in the WTA Singles Rankings and has a career-high ranking of No. 20.
After dropping the first set, 4-6, Hartono took the second and third sets in tight tiebreaks decided by the score of 7-5. Hartono battled to stay alive in the match, fending off two match points in the second and two more in the third while down 30-40 and 40-Ad behind 5-6 in the set. Hartono broke Kovinic's serve eight times in the match.
Hartono won her first-round match 6-1, 6-4, versus ITF No. 208 Estelle Cascino from France.
Hartono's highest-ranked singles victory occurred on September 14 over WTA No. 68 Anna-Lena Friedsam at the WTA 250 Luxembourg.
Hartono also competed in doubles at the event and reached the Quarterfinals alongside partner Oksana Selekhmeteva from Russia. The duo defeated Salma Djoubri and Olivia Gadecki 6-2, 6-3 in the Round of 16 prior to falling 7-6 (7), 5-7, 0-1 (10-6) to Robin Anderson and Amandine Hesse.
In singles, Hartono currently ranks No. 266 in the WTA and No. 93 in the ITF. In doubles, she ranks No. 205 in the WTA and No. 305 in the ITF.
