Simon Junk Advances to ITA All-American Qualifying Draw

Junk Wins Two Matches on Sunday
TULSA, Okla. – Ole Miss' Simon Junk won two more matches on Sunday at the ITA All-American Championships to advance from the Pre Qualifying draw to the Qualifying Draw. Junk joins John Hallquist Lithén in the 128-person Qualifying draw on Monday. Rebels Finn Reynolds and Nikola Slavic have already earned placement in the 64-participant Main Draw.
Junk became one of 16 student-athletes to advance from the 256-person Pre Qualifying Draw by winning in the Round of 64 and 32 on Sunday. Junk earned two victories in the Round of 256 and 128 on Saturday.
Junk and Texas' Nevin Arimilli battled in a three-set match in the Round of 64. Junk took the first set, 6-4, but dropped the second set, 4-6. Play on Sunday consisted of a full third set as opposed to a super tiebreak (utilized on Saturday). Junk replicated his first set in the third, winning 6-4 and advancing to the Round of 32.
Junk started strong in the Round of 32, taking the first set 6-1 over Ohio State's Andrew Lutschaunig. Junk and Lutschaunig battled in a tight second set all the way to a tiebreak. Junk and Lutschaunig were tied 5-5 in the tiebreak and then the German Rebel won two-straight to seal the set and clinch the match.
Lukas Engelhardt, Jakob Cadonau and Walker Stearns also competed on Sunday. Engelhardt lost in straight sets to Pepperdine's Eric Hadigian in the Round of 64. Cadonau and Stearns both competed in consolation matches as Cadonau defeated UT-Arlington's Ricardo Alban, 7-5, 6-1 and Stearns felt to Hawaii's Blaz Seric.
