Reynolds Loses Close Match in ITA All-American Championships Round of 16

10/8/2021 | Men's Tennis

Finn Reynolds Falls to Alex Kotzen, 6-3, 6-4

TULSA, Okla. – Ole Miss' Finn Reynolds was defeated by Columbia's Alex Kotzen in straight-sets in the Round of 16 of the ITA All-American Championships on Friday morning. Reynolds was the final Rebel remaining in the tournament.

No. 4 singles seed Reynolds put forth a strong showing at the ITA All-American Championships, reaching the Round of 16 in both singles and doubles competition. Reynolds was two wins away in singles and three wins away in doubles from earning automatic qualification into the ITA National Fall Championships (Nov. 4-7 in San Diego). Reynolds' next opportunity to qualify automatically for the ITA Fall Championships will occur next week at the ITA Southern Championships hosted at Auburn (Oct. 14-19). Reynolds is the predicted No. 1 seed in the Southern Championships as the 2020-21 All-American concluded last season ranked No. 1 in the region in both singles and doubles. Apart from the regional championships, Reynolds has the opportunity to qualify for the ITA National Fall Championships via his ITA ranking.

Reynolds fought hard on Friday morning, taking seven games in total off of Kotzen in defeat. Kotzen, the No. 110-ranked player in the ITA Preseason Rankings, has not made an appearance in a major tournament up to this point. Kotzen is a third-year sophomore who saw the 2019-20 season cut-short and 2020-21 season cancelled for the Lions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Kotzen competed on the ITF pro tour mainly at the M15 level last season.

Reynolds' career singles record now stands at 36-31 overall and 7-4 in tournament competition.
