Tamburlini, Lignell, Host Husted Named to International Competition Rosters
OXFORD, Miss. – Three Ole Miss women's golfers have been selected by their respective national teams to compete in the 2021 Spirit International Golf Championship in Trinity, Texas, from Nov. 4-6.
Chiara Tamburlini (Switzerland), Andrea Lignell (Sweden) and Natacha Host Husted (Denmark) were each selected by their home nations to serve as one of four golfers from each country to compete in the competition, which features the world's top amateur golfers.
Representing Switzerland, junior Chiara Tamburlini has a history of success in international competitions that she looks to translate into the Spirit International, with Tamburlini having had a Top-10 performance at the 2019 Swiss International Ladies Championship. The junior is coming off of her best performance of the fall season for the Rebels at the East Lake Cup, where Tamburlini earned her third top-5 finish of her college career by finishing tied for fourth in Atlanta.
A native of Gothenburg, Sweden, junior Andrea Lignell was selected as one of Team Sweden's four amateur golfers to compete in the Spirit International. Lignell's helped lead the Swedish Senior Team to four straight championships prior to her enrollment at Ole Miss aiding in her selection process. Following an appearance for the Rebels at the East Lake Cup where she set a new career high individual finish by tying for second overall, Lignell will look to carry her momentum into Texas while donning her national team's colors.
Freshman Natacha Host Husted, who has represented her home nation of Denmark before on both the Danish Girls and Danish Ladies National Teams, is the only Rebel making her second career appearance at the Spirit International, having been a member of the Danish team in 2019. Host Husted is coming off of a strong finish to her fall season, where the Copenhagen, Denmark, native capped off the East Lake Cup with her first collegiate top-10 finish.
The Spirit International Golf Championship is formatted in a 54-hole competition with five concurrent competition categories: international team, men's team and women's team, and men's and women's individual stroke play competitions. Gold, silver and bronze medals are to be awarded to the top three in each competition category.
The three-day tournament is set to take place beginning Nov. 4 at Whispering Pines Golf Club in Trinity, Texas, with a total of 80 competitors from 20 countries in attendance. A livestream of the competition will be available on GolfChannel.com, the NBC Sports app and on TheSpiritGolf.com during the tournament. The Golf Channel will present a two-hour highlight show of the competition on Dec. 9 from 6-8 p.m. CT, with an encore presentation on Dec. 11 from 3-5 p.m. CT.
