Finn Reynolds Advances in ITA Fall Nationals Opener

Reynolds Wins in Straight Sets, Slavic Falls in Three Sets to Defending Champion
SAN DIEGO – Ole Miss Rebel Finn Reynolds earned a straight-set victory in the round of 32 of the ITA National Fall Championships on Thursday and advances to the round of 16 on Friday. Nikola Slavic lost in a tough three-set match and will compete in the consolation draw.
ITA Preseason No. 11 Reynolds faced Ohio State's No. 87 James Trotter in the opening round of the tournament. Reynolds received entry into the tournament via a wildcard selection. Trotter earned qualification by winning the ITA Midwest Regional. Reynolds defeated Trotter by identical set scores, 6-4, 6-4, to advance to the round of 16. Reynolds earned his 40th career singles victory (40-32) and his record this year improved to 6-2.
Reynolds will next face No. 3 seed August Holmgren on his home court. Holmgren reached the finals of the ITA All-American Championships. Both the round of 16 and quarterfinals will be played on Friday.
No. 21-ranked Slavic fell in three sets to unranked Trey Hilderbrand of UCF. After losing the first set, 2-6, Slavic reversed the momentum by winning the second set, 6-2. Slavic was unable to win any games in the tiebreaking set, falling to Hilderbrand by the final match score of 2-6, 6-2, 0-6. Slavic earned automatic qualification for the ITA National Fall Championships via winning the ITA Southern Regional. Hilderbrand placed runner-up in the ITA Southeast Region. Hilderbrand is the defending champion of the ITA National Fall Championships.
Slavic will compete on Friday in the consolation singles draw. He will first compete versus Duke's Andrew Zhang. Zhang is ranked No. 120 in the ITA Preseason Rankings.
