Georgia’s Mell Reasco Defeats Tiphanie Fiquet, 6-4, 2-6, 3-6

SAN DIEGO – Ole Miss Rebel Tiphanie Fiquet fell in three sets at the ITA National Fall Championships to Georgia's Mell Reasco on Friday.

Fiquet's 11-match win streak dating back to the spring season was snapped in the final event of the fall collegiate season. Fiquet's Fall Championships run at the Barnes Tennis Center came to an end in the round of 16.

SEC foe Reasco got ahead of Fiquet early, taking the first set, 6-4. Fiquet strongly bounced back in the second, winning the set 6-2, to force a third and deciding set. Reasco crucially broke Fiquet's serve while leading 4-3 to take a 5-3 lead. The Bulldog held to take the third set, 6-3, and win the match.

Both Fiquet and Reasco entered the match in tremendous form. Fiquet won the ITA Southern Regional Championships and Reasco won the ITA Southeast Regional Championships. Fiquet received the No. 69 ITA Preaseason Ranking. Reasco did not receive a preseason singles ranking this fall.

Fiquet's all-time singles record at Ole Miss is an impressive 23-9. She defeated Reasco's teammate, No. 19 Lea, at the Ole Miss Fall Invite to earn her highest-ranked victory this season.

Rebels Ludmila Kareisová and Kelsey Mize defeated Indiana's Lara Schneider and Laura Masic, 7-6 (2), 6-0, in the consolation doubles round of 16 on CT Friday night. The Rebel fell to Pennsylvania's Iulia Bryzgalova and Marija Curnic in the third set tiebreaker in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
