Men’s Basketball Earns Sixth Seed for SEC Tournament

Ole Miss to Face 11 Seed South Carolina Thursday
OXFORD, Miss. – After completing a perfect week, winning the final two home games of the season, the Ole Miss men's basketball team found out its seed and opponent for the SEC Tournament Sunday afternoon. With a 10-8 record in conference play, the Rebels earned the sixth seed and will face No. 11 seed South Carolina Thursday night (March 11) at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville.
The matchup will be the last of four games that day, set to beginning 25 minutes after the conclusion of the 6 p.m. CT game between No. 7 seed Missouri and No. 10 seed Georgia. No. 3 seed LSU awaits the winner of the Rebels-Gamecocks battle.
Placing sixth in the conference standings, the Rebels finished above the media's preseason projection for the eighth time in the past decade. The SEC Preseason Media Poll tabbed Ole Miss to finish ninth heading into the season. The Rebels had a strong second half of SEC play, winning seven of their final nine games.
Ole Miss leads the all-time series with South Carolina 22-20, including an 81-74 victory in Columbia last month (Feb. 13). In that game, senior Devontae Shuler scored a career-high 31 points in a return to his home state. The Rebels also knocked down 34 free throws to help seal the win.
The two teams have met in the SEC Tournament nine times with South Carolina holding a slim 5-4 advantage. The last such meeting occurred three years ago when the Gamecocks escaped with an 85-84 victory in St. Louis (March 7 2018). Eight days later, Kermit Davis was named as the Rebels' new head coach.
