Rebels Defeat 10th Seeded Tigers to Advance to Conference Tournament Quarterfinals
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – No. 12 Ole Miss (11-9, 7-5 SEC) earned a 4-1 victory over No. 39 LSU (12-12, 4-8 SEC) to advance through the Second Round of the SEC Championships on Tuesday.
Ole Miss has won both matches versus LSU this season. The Rebels defeated the Tigers 6-1 in their previous matchup on March 5. The Rebels last reached the SEC Tournament Quarterfinals in 2018.
Head Coach Toby Hansson's Thoughts
"We won the match against a tough LSU team that stuck around. We were able to battle and maintain focus to get the victory. The guys did a great job today and really deserved to win. We get another shot at Tennessee tomorrow in what should be a really good match."
How it Happened
The Rebels won a handful of closely contested matches over the Tigers. Ole Miss claimed the opening doubles point and held onto the lead for the remainder of the match.
In doubles, the Rebels edged out the Tigers, 2-1. Ole Miss fell behind 1-0 after LSU took No. 3 Doubles, 6-2. No. 1 Finn Reynolds and Tim Sandkaulen tied doubles at 1-all by winning 6-2 over No. 39 Ronald Hohmann and Rafael Wagner. The nation's top-ranked duo extended their win streak to eight matches with the victory. Reynolds and Sandkaulen have defeated six top-50 opponents during the current unbeaten stretch and are 7-1 overall versus top-50 opponents this season. The Rebels clinched the opening point by claiming Court No. 2. Brady Draheim and Simon Junk toppled LSU's No. 83 Joao Graca and Joey Thomas, 6-4. Draheim and Junk earned their first ranked doubles victory of the season and gave the Rebels a 1-0 lead in the match.
Junk extended the Rebels lead to 2-0 by winning first in singles. Junk swiftly won 6-1, 6-2 over Benjamin Ambrosio. Junk finished his match prior to other singles matches concluding the first set.
The Tigers took No. 1 Singles to bring the match to 2-1 in favor of the Rebels. No. 48 Hohmann defeated No. 14 Reynolds 6-2, 1-6, 6-4. Reynolds defeated Hohmann in three sets in their previous meeting this season.
No. 27 Nikola Slavic put Ole Miss ahead 3-1 by defeating Graca in straight sets, 7-6 (5), 6-3. Slavic has earned 13 dual victories this season to lead all Rebels. No. 46 Sandkaulen clinched the victory for the Rebels at 4-1 by claiming Court No. 2. Sandkaulen won a back-and-forth match over Wagner by triumphing in the third set tiebreak, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (5).
The remaining two matches both went unfinished while tied in the back end of the third set. John Hallquist Lithén was tied 5-all versus Boris Kozlov and fellow freshman Jakob Cadonau was tied 4-all with Ben Koch.

The Rebels will next face No. 2 seed Tennessee at 12 p.m. CT on Wednesday in the SEC Championships Quarterfinals. The Volunteers are currently ranked No. 4 in the Orcale/ITA rankings.
