Reynolds and New Zealand take on South Korea in Davis Cup Qualifiers Friday

Ole Miss No. 1 Finn Reynolds to Represent Home Nation at the ITF Hall of Fame in Rhode Island
OXFORD, Miss. – ITA All-American Finn Reynolds is set to represent New Zealand for ITF Davis Cup by Rakuten international team competition at the ITF Hall of Fame in Newport, Rhode Island. New Zealand and the South Korea square off at 11 a.m. CT on Friday and at 9:30 a.m. CT on Saturday to earn a spot in the 2022 Davis Cup Qualifiers.
Reynolds and No. 38 world ranked New Zealand faces No. 27 world ranked South Korea in the most prestigious international men's team tennis tournament. The two nations' tie will occur within World Group I competition. The top eight world-ranked seeds to win their matchups will advance automatically to the 2022 Davis Cup Qualifiers. The remaining four winners will compete in an additional knock-out tournament in November. The two knock-out winners will progress to the 2022 qualifiers. The World Group I losing teams and two knock-out losers will compete In the World Group I Play-Offs in 2022.
The International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, Rhode Island, will serve as the host site for New Zealand due to the COVID-19 pandemic restricting New Zealand from playing at home. The event will occur on grass courts, while most collegiate tennis events are played on hardcourt.
Joining Reynolds on New Zealand's roster are Marcus Daniell, Isaac Becroft, Rubin Statham and Michael Venus. Daniell and Venus earned New Zealand's first Olympic medal in tennis at the 2020 Tokyo Games in August. Venus, ranked No. 19 in doubles on the ATP tour, won the 2017 French Open alongside American Ryan Harrison. Statham, New Zealand's longest tenured international, has played professionally since 2004 and has competed in 31 Davis Cup matches.
The South Korean lineup consists of Soonwoo Kwon, Jisung Nam, Yuseong Chung, Seong Chan Hong and Minku Song. Kwon, No. 83 in the ATP singles rankings, is the highest ranked South Korean in either singles or doubles. He is the nation's only top-100 ranked player. Davis Cup matches consist of best of five scoring across four singles and one doubles match.
Reynolds achieved ITA All-American status in both singles in 2021 and doubles in both 2021 and 2020. Last season, Reynolds reached the Round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament in doubles and the Round of 32 in singles. He ranked as college's No. 1 for the entirety of the regular and postseason rankings in doubles and achieved a career-best ranking of No. 11 in singles during spring 2021. His overall collegiate record is 46-18 in doubles and 34-30 in singles. Reynolds has the potential to compete in singles and serve as an alternate in doubles for the Kiwis.
