Rebels Conclude Non-Conference Schedule with Home Win

OXFORD, Miss. – Completely commanding control of its matchup with Georgia Southern (6-3-1, 1-0-0 Sun Belt), Ole Miss (6-1-2, 1-0-0 SEC) picked up a 2-1 win on a wet and sticky surface on Sunday, finishing out its non-conference schedule.

Owning over 60 percent of possession, the Rebels outshot the Eagles 29-3 on the day, setting up several quality chances. Channing Foster and Haleigh Stackpole were on the prowl in particular, teaming up for 11 shots and five attempts on goal.

Right from the jump, the Rebs were all over the Eagles, peppering the goal with eight shots within the first 13 minutes of play, but with nothing to show for it.

A few minutes later, that changed as Stackpole bagged her second goal in as many games to make it 1-0 Ole Miss in the 19th minute. Assists went to Taylor Radecki and Jenna Kemp as the former whipped in a far post cross and the latter nodded back across to set up Stackpole for an easy tap in header.

The Rebels stayed on the hunt, outshooting Georgia Southern 16-2 in the first 45 minutes and came close to adding a second on a couple of occasions but were forced to settle for the one-goal lead at the break.

Ole Miss' domination continued right from the moment the second half whistle blew, with the Rebels pushing forward in search of a second. Under eight minutes in, they found just that. Stackpole was once again in the thick of things, making a run down the flank, cutting onto her left and firing a rocket that GSU keeper Michaela English just got a hand on. Ramsey Davis followed up at the far post, tapping in for her first goal of the season in the 53rd minute.

The two-goal cushion was short lived, as Elis Nemtsov fired home a shot on her right foot of an assist by Olivia Durham to make the score 2-1 in the 56th minute.

With the sun bearing down, the pace of play started to slow as Ole Miss salted away the remaining minutes to secure the win.

QUICK KICKS
Ole Miss finishes off its non-conference slate with a 5-1-2 record outside of SEC play.
Haleigh Stackpole scored for the second match in a row, putting her season total at three.
• Stackpole also recorded her 10th assist of the season, extending her national lead. The 10 assists is tied for the fifth most in a single season in Ole Miss history. The senior has posted at least one assist in seven of Ole Miss' nine matches.
• Of the five goals that Ole Miss scored this week, Stackpole either scored or assisted on four of them.
Ramsey Davis scored her first goal of the season, giving the sophomore five for her career.

NEXT UP
With the non-conference schedule fully in the rearview mirror, Ole Miss turns its attention back to SEC action. The Rebels will remain at home for the third consecutive match on Thursday, taking on No. 6 LSU at 6 p.m. CT.
