10/15/2022 | Women's Tennis

BATON ROUGE, La. – After competing in day two of competition at the ITA Southern Regional, Ole Miss women's tennis senior Lillian Gabrielsen continues on her hot streak in singles after going 2-0 for the day to advance to the quarterfinals.

Overall, Ole Miss went 4-3 in singles with three of those wins coming in the Round of 32 and one coming in the Round of 16. In doubles play the Rebels finished 0-2, dropping both of their matches in the Round of 16.

Gabrielsen began the singles competition with a face-off against Louisiana Tech's Leonie Schuknecht and was in full control in the opening set, taking a 6-1 win. During the second set, the senior Rebel and the Bulldog battled against each other, leading it to a tiebreaker. The Oslo, Norway, native came in clutch and secured a 7-6 (5) set win to advance.

In the Round of 16, Gabrielsen continued on her hot streak, sweeping her LSU competitor Safiya Carrington in two sets (6-3, 6-4). With Gabrielsen's win, she advances to the quarterfinals of qingles to represent Ole Miss.

Reka Zadori made quick work on advancing to the Round of 16, as she advanced past her in-state rival Alessia Tagliente of Mississippi State via walkover. Following this, Zadori was set to play against LSU's Anastasiya Komar.

The Szeged, Hungary, native dropped her first set but secured her second set with her back against the wall, forcing a third. However, Zadori was unable to keep her streak alive and fell to the Tiger, 6-1, 4-6, 6-4.

Kelsey Mize dominated her opponent, Tiffani Nash of Louisiana Tech, throughout the entirety of her first singles match of the day. Mize, who went 2-0 during day one of competition, swept the Bulldog in two sets (6-4, 6-2).

After advancing to the Round of 16, Mize was put in a battle between Alabama's Loudmilla Bencheikh. Mize dropped her first set, but didn't give up against her Alabama opponent as she forced the second set into a tiebreaker. Even with Mize's effort, she was unable to pull through and ended her streak with a 6-2, 7-6(5) defeat.

Rachel Krzyzak was slated against Auburn foe Adeline Flach in the Round of 32. Krzyzak had a hot start with a 6-4 win in the first set, but ultimately fell in a three-set battle (4-6, 1-6, 6-7 (4)).

Day two of competition for the Rebels started with one round of doubles play, with the duos of Ludmila Kareisová/Kelsey Mize and Rachel Krzyzak/Lillian Gabrielsen competing in the Round of 32. Both pairs put up hard fights against their competitors but were unable to clinch their matches.

Kareisová/Mize went up against tough competition as they faced off with the No. 1 seed Yelamanchili/Russell of Tulane. The No. 12 seeded Rebels battled against their competitors, but fell 8-5.

No. 9 seed Krzyzak/Gabrielsen went up against SEC foes in No. 4 seed Carnicella/Flach of Auburn. The Rebels battled hard with the Tigers, forcing the match to go to a tiebreaker to decide the victor. In the end, Ole Miss fell 8-7(4) to their in-conference foes.

Gabrielsen will look to tomorrow to continue on her winning streak in the quarterfinals beginning at 10 a.m. CT. Live results and video will be provided through LSU's website.
