Rifle Inks Olivia Schammel to NLI

OXFORD, Miss – Ole Miss rifle signed its first student-athlete to the class of 2023 as head coach Marsha Beasley announced the signing of Olivia Schammel.\
 
Schammel joins the Rebels from Kingwood High School in Kingwood, Texas, where she is the team captain of the Houston Hotshots. Schammel has been shooting for four years and has participated in Ole Miss camps in the past.
 
At the 2022 USA Shooting National Championships, Schammel fired a 607.6 on day one and 612.8 on day two. Schammel's toal score of 1,220.4 finished in 50th place overall and 19th in the U18 division.

"We're excited to welcome Olivia to the Ole Miss rifle team. She has participated in the Miss Open tournaments and camps multiple times. She is clearly passionate about Ole Miss which is something I love to see in a recruit. I know she will be a great teammate and an important contributor for us," says Coach Marsha Beasley.
 
Off the range, Schammel is a member of Alpha Theta, St. Martha's Discipleship Team, Women in Stem and the Rosary Club. She also plays in the band.
 
"I loved the campus and school," says Schammel. "I also loved the team atmosphere and coaches and it felt like the right fit."
 
Schammel is the daughter of Cynthia Garza and Steven Schammel. She has one sibling, her brother, Ethan Schammel. She plans to design medical delivery systems at a bio-molecular level for her career.
