Buesseler Takes Home Silver In Smallbore

Rebels Sit in Third After Day One

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Senior Abby Buesseler made the most of her last GARC Championship match, taking home silver in the smallbore discipline on Friday. As a team, Ole Miss sits in third after the first day of competition.
 
Competing in her fifth and final conference championship match, Buesseler qualified for the smallbore final with a 586. She and teammate Lea Horvath competed among the GARC's best, finishing second and fourth, respectively.
 
In the final, Buesseler and Horvath immediately jumped to the front of the pack, firing a 152.1 and 151.6 in kneeling, respectively. The two continued to remain in the top half through prone and into standing, where single shot elimination began. Horvath fired a 10.1 on her 42nd shot, just one-tenth shy of the bronze. Buesseler made it to the final two, finishing with a silver medal.
 
Shooting three relays, Claire O'Neel and M'Leah Lambdin got the Rebels started. O'Neel fired a 582, along with a 579 from Lambdin. The senior pairing of Buesseler and Jillian Zakrzeski followed in the next relay. Buesseler posted a strong 586, while Zakrzeski finished with a 582. In the final relay of the day, Horvath and Kristen Derting toed the line. Horvath posted the third-highest score in the field with a 591, and Derting fired a 584 to bring the team score to a 2343.
  
Action continues tomorrow at 7 a.m. with air rifle. Teams will once again compete in three different relays with a final to follow for the top eight individuals.
