Men’s Tennis Falls 6-1 to No. 1 Florida in Gainesville

Engelhardt Defeats No. 93 Andrade at No. 4 Singles
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – No. 31 Ole Miss men's tennis (11-6, 1-3 SEC) earned one decision point against No. 1 Florida (12-2, 5-0 SEC) on the road Friday evening.
The No. 31 ranked Rebels fell to 11-6 overall this season, falling to No. 1 Florida in the swamp, 6-1. All six Ole Miss losses this season have been against ranked opponents, including four versus top-four programs.
Ole Miss played from behind against Florida in both singles and doubles. The No. 1 ranked Gators are the defending NCAA and SEC Team Champions and also feature the No. 1 ranked singles player in the nation.
Florida swept Ole Miss in doubles, 2-0. No. 2 Finn Reynolds and Lukas Engelhardt suffered their second consecutive loss at the No. 1 position.
The Gators took a 3-0 match lead quickly in singles. Florida's Abdellah Shelbayh defeated No. Jan Soren Hain first at No. 6 Singles and then Josh Goodger took down Simon Junk on Court No. 5. Shelbayh and Goodger won in two sets.
Engelhardt put the Rebels on the board, taking down No. 93 Andy Andrade to cut the Florida lead to 3-1. Engelhardt won in straight sets, 7-6 (3), 6-3. He improved to 8-3 in duals this season and picked up his second ranked win of the 2021-22 season.
Florida went on to win the remaining three matches, all in three sets. No. 1 Ben Shelton clinched the victory for the Gators by defeating No. 21 Nikola Slavic. Defending NCAA Singles Champion No. 56 Sam Riffice came back to defeat Reynolds after losing the first set. No. 109 Duarte Vale won over John Hallquist Lithen to conclude the dual.
Up Next: The Rebels will travel Columbia, S.C. to compete against the No. 7 Gamecocks on Sunday at 11 a.m. CT.
