Sabina Machalova Earns Ranked Singles and Doubles Victories

OXFORD, Miss. – No. 61 Ole Miss Women's Tennis (8-5, 2-3 SEC) defeated No 31 Alabama (12-4, 2-2 SEC), 4-2, at home at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center on Friday.

Head Coach Mark Beyers' Rebels improved to 8-5 overall this season by earning a 4-2 win over SEC-West foe Alabama on Friday evening. The Rebels earned their first victory in a match directly after a loss this season. The Rebels extended their win streak versus the Crimson Tide to six, dating back to 2016.

The match started in Alabama's corner, as the Crimson Tide won the opening doubles point. The Rebels took the lead in doubles on Court No. 1. Sabina Machalova and Rachel Krzyzak defeated Alabama's No. 70 Loudmilla Bencheik and Anne Marie Hiser, 6-3, to take an Ole Miss lead. Moments after the first decision of the day, the Crimson Tide took Courts No. 2 and No. 3 both by a score of 6-4.

The Rebels responded furiously in singles, winning the first set across all six courts. Krzyzak blew by Hiser 6-2, 6-0, to level the match at 1-1. Elysia Pool then earned a straight-set 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 6 singles versus Kasia Pitak to give Ole Miss its first lead, 2-1. No. 79 Machalova then put the Rebels in striking distance of a victory by taking down No. 75 Bencheikh 6-4, 7-5.

Alabama's No. 102 Petra Sedlackova closed-in on the Ole Miss lead by defeating the Rebels' Reka Zadori 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3 Singles.

Lillian Gabrielsen clinched the Ole Miss victory at No. 5 Singles, defeating Anna Parkhomenko in three sets, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2. Ole Miss defeated Alabama 4-2.

No. 2 singles went unfinished with Ludmila Kareisová trailing 4-2 in the second-set tiebreak. She won the first set tiebreaker 7-3 over Ola Pitak.

Ole Miss earned its second ranked win of 2022.

Up Next: The Rebels return home on Sunday to face No. 7 Auburn at 1 p.m. CT.
